getting started at the centre

A gradual introduction to the Centre works best. When a place has been accepted the centre will send an orientation pack, outlining the orientation procedure. Parents can commence by spending some time with their child at the centre. This can take several times - each child is different. Once the child is happy, they can be left with staff for a short period of time to see how they manage. Some will settle easily while others will take longer, both of which are completely normal. However, if a child is distressed when left by a parent we recommend you call us to see how they are managing and make the child’s day a shorter one until they are happier. In the majority of cases tears last only a short while.

Parents are to be assured that they will be contacted if the child is ever overly upset.

During orientation, parents will be introduced to staff that will primarily be involved in the child’s care and evaluation. An appointment is recommended if parents have any concerns they would like to discuss.

What to bring:

- A named small  carry bag or back pack.

- One complete change of clothes.

- A security toy or blanket for rest time (if required).

- 3 nappies for children who not toilet trained

- Plenty of spare underwear and changes of clothing are recommended for children who are not completely toilet trained.

- A hat (preferably wide-brimmed)

- Roll on bottle of Sunscreen

Staff will encourage children to be responsible for their own belongings. Sometimes it takes time for children to form these good habits, however they will eventually learn responsibility. Staff will try to keep track of any clothing or items children misplace but cannot take personal responsibility for items that go missing. Parents are asked to discourage children from bringing toys to the centre. We have plenty!

Parents are welcome to contact or visit the centre at any time. We welcome you as part of our community and hope your experience with us at Como Children is a positive and memorable one.
